Frequently Asked Questions
-
How Should I Prepare for My First Waxing Appointment?
If you’re getting a body waxing service done, exfoliate the skin 24-48 hours before the appointment. Doing so will help the hair lift from the skin, and in turn help lessen the discomfort. Do not have caffeine or alcohol before your appointment. If you’re not allergic, you can also take an anti-histamine 30 minutes to an hour before the appointment.
-
How long does my body hair have to be to get a wax?
You should grow your hair out for at least two and a half weeks to three weeks. The longer the hair, the better the results. It should be as long as a grain of rice or longer.
-
How often should I get waxed?
For facial waxing, every 3-5 weeks. Underarms, every 2-3 weeks. Brazilian, arms, legs, every 4-6 weeks. Ultimately, it depends on how quickly your particular hair grows back.

What is the Aftercare Like for Waxing?
Aftercare for waxing, to avoid ingrown hairs and bumps is absolutely imperative. Everyone will still get an ingrown hair here and there, but what you do at home between waxes can really help prevent them. We recommend these steps:
Do not shave between appointments. This can disrupt the growth cycle of the hair and cause you to have hair growing at all times between appointments.
Exfoliate 3-4 times a week using either a physical exfoliator or a chemical one, such as glycolic/salicylic acid. We have a wide variety of aftercare available at the studio that we know will work for you. Do not use sugar or salt scrubs on the bikini area, as these products can clog the follicles and cause ingrowns and even yeast infections.
MOISTURIZE! Moisturize every. single. day. Twice if you can. Dead skin buildup and dry skin are the biggest causes of ingrown hairs. We have amazing products available at the studio for this as well.
Keep up with your waxes. If you’re consistent, you’ll see the best results and have the happiest skin!

What would stop me from getting a wax?
If you are currently using any retinol/vitamin A/retin-A product such as tretinoin, differin, or any facial cream containing retinol, you cannot be waxed. If you are on Accutane, you must be off of the Accutane for as long as you were taking it before you can be waxed. If you were to not disclose this information before your wax, your skin could be compromised - your skin might lift, causing sensitivity and a burn-like mark.
If you are on any steroids, blood thinners, or are going through chemo therapy/radiation, you also may not be able to be waxed.
-
If I'm pregnant, can I get a wax?
You can absolutely receive any waxing service up until your due date. Waxing is 100% safe for pregnant people.
-
I have herpes - can I still be waxed?
You can still be waxed as long as you do not have a current, active breakout. This information does not need to be disclosed to your waxer unless you feel comfortable doing so.
-
Can I still be waxed while I'm on my period?
You can absolutely be waxed during your menstrual cycle. Just wear a clean tampon or menstrual cup and it’s all good! Fresh wipes will be available as well in case you need to freshen up.
-
I have old microblading/brow shading done. Can I still book the powder brow service?
Nine times out of ten, yes. A consultation might need to be done in order to book the actual service. If you have old work done, the best course of action would be to send clear pictures of your current brows with no product/makeup in them to Ashley or Lexi so they can tell you. Shoot us an email: ashley@the412waxbar.com & lexi@the412waxbar.com

I'm pregnant. Can I get the powder brow service?
Unfortunately, no. You cannot get any permanent makeup services done while you are pregnant or breast feeding. With any injectable or tattoo, there’s a chance for the pigment to enter the bloodstream. If that were to happen, it could potentially lead to birth defect or miscarriage. If breast feeding, you need to wait 8 weeks after your last feeding to have the service done.
-
What is the powder brow technique?
Powder brows involves using a tattoo machine to give the appearance of a fuller brow. It gives a soft, filled in look to the brows. Once healed, brows are 20-30% lighter and have a “powder” appearance, hence the name!
-
What's the difference between microblading and powder brows?
Microblading involves using a small blade with needles to score the skin and insert pigment. Only about 20% of the population are candidates for this technique. Powder brows involves using a tattoo machine to tattoo pigment into the skin. Almost everyone is a candidate for the powder brow technique and it lasts a bit longer. Microblading needs touched up once a year and powder brows need touched up every 1-4 years depending on your skin and how well it holds pigment.
